WER GRÄBT DEN BESTATTER EIN? (OV)

WHO BURIES THE UNDERTAKER?

The municipalities of Greisendorf and Neubrunn are vying for the grave of former silent film star Gaby Gruber. But at 114 years old, Germany's oldest woman is far from thinking about death. When Greisendorf's undertaker suddenly dies, a gardener and a garbage collector are promptly appointed as the new undertakers.

"Fans of robust Bavarian humor will find themselves right at home in this comedy directed by Tanja and Andreas Schmidbauer. The language and humor are sometimes bawdy, but the Schmidbauers, with their excellent sense of timing and situational comedy, manage to stage an entertaining sequence of comical scenes. The ensemble, including Tom Kreß, Angelika Sedlmeier, David Zimmerschied, Uli Bauer, Teresa Rizos, Max von Thun, Simon Pearce, Johanna Singer, and many others, clearly enjoy themselves and are extremely well-rehearsed. The Schmidbauers skillfully play with the exaggeration inherent in the genre; even the macabre aspects of the theme are present, but never overdone. The traditional Bavarian music enhances the atmosphere and adds comical touches, as does the editing, which uses cross-cutting to create darkly humorous punchlines."
