SEVEN SECONDS
The documentary SEVEN SECONDS - THE DREAM OF FLYING tells the fascinating story of ambitious female ski jumpers who have dedicated themselves to the dream of flying and are fighting for recognition and equality in ski jumping, because ski flying - the king of disciplines in ski jumping - was not allowed for women until March 2023.
The film follows Katharina Schmid (née Althaus, GER) and Eva Pinkelnig (AUT) on their journey to a historic event: the first official women's ski flying competition in Vikersund. In addition to the two protagonists, many of their companions share their perspectives, offering insights into the diversity of the ski jumping community.
For Martina Di Lorenzo, it was a stroke of luck to secure Katharina Schmid and Eva Pinkelnig as the main protagonists for the project. She accompanied the two during an exceptionally successful season, offering glimpses into their private lives alongside their training and competitions. Her enthusiasm for the two athletes provided the film with valuable footage that allows the audience to empathize with the protagonists.
In SEVEN SECONDS, not only the technical side of ski jumping is showcased, but also the human side of the sport. It delves into the world of the athletes and offers glimpses behind the scenes of ski jumping. The film also aims to inspire other women and girls to pursue their visions and believe in their dreams.
